Introduction

GM Davor Rogic led an engaging and insightful session on critical bishop and pawn endgames, providing deep analysis and practical examples to enhance understanding of these positions. Here's a detailed summary of the key points covered in the class:

Critical Positions and Key Moves

F6 as the Critical Square: The session began with a discussion on why F6 is a critical square in certain bishop and pawn endgames. When White places the bishop on F6, Black is often forced into a losing position, unable to stop the pawn promotion or maintain control of crucial squares like E7.

Importance of King Placement: Rogic emphasised the importance of the king’s placement in endgames. Ideally, the king should be positioned on F5 to prevent White’s bishop from executing a winning maneuver.
